International Equestrian Federation lifts restrictions on Russian athletes from October 5

The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) confirmed Thursday it will lift restrictions on Russian equestrian athletes and allow competitions in the country under its auspices starting October 5. Russia and Belarus have been barred from representing their nations at FEI events since March 2022 following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, though some competed as neutrals. The FEI cited the International Olympic Committee's July decision to restore Russia's Olympic committee rights. The Russian Equestrian Federation announced the approval came after extensive negotiations. Under new rules, Russia can host FEI-sanctioned events if regulations are followed, with restrictions on flags, anthems, and colors lifted. The FEI stated Russia provided written confirmation it will not develop equestrian sports in occupied Ukrainian territories. The FEI said its Ukraine solidarity fund, established in 2022, remains operational to support the country's equestrian community.
