Inquiry ordered into prisoner’s death in Sedam sub-jail

A 32-year-old inmate died in the Sedam sub-jail in Kalaburagi district on Saturday. The prisoner, Mohammad Riyaaz, was awaiting trial for a robbery charge. He had been in jail for one-and-a-half years. Doctors at the District Government Hospital pronounced him dead. However, police reported that Riyaaz collapsed after having a seizure. Following concerns about the cause of death, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil visited the hospital. Patil has now ordered an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Riyaaz's death, as questions remain about what happened.
