Inquest reveals pressure on detective investigating Regency Hotel shooting before his death
An inquest into the death of Det Supt Colm Fox revealed he faced significant pressure while investigating the Regency Hotel shooting in 2016. Family members described his struggles with sleep and stress during the trial of Patrick Hutch, who was accused of murder. Edel Fox, his widow, noted that he felt pressured by police commissioners to expedite the investigation. On the night before his death, he appeared distressed and expressed doubts about his actions during the trial. The inquest also heard that Det Supt Fox had considered retiring and had filled out his retirement forms. Coroner Dr. Myra Cullinane indicated that notes left by Fox would be reviewed during the proceedings. The inquest is ongoing.
