Inmate sentenced for providing drugs that caused cellmate's overdose death in Bay County Jail

A Bay County Jail inmate, Kristine I. Campau, was sentenced to prison for providing drugs that led to her cellmate's overdose death. Campau, 35, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and possession of contraband, receiving concurrent sentences of five to 15 years and 40 months to five years. The overdose victim, Jessica L. Ayers, died from fentanyl intoxication shortly after Campau provided her with drugs. Campau had fentanyl on her when she was booked into the jail, but it was not discovered during a routine search. Ayers had been in jail for nearly a year on various charges. Her death highlights the ongoing issue of fentanyl-related overdoses, which have significantly increased in the U.S. in recent years.
