Indonesia's Jantho Nature Reserve welcomes second baby Sumatran orangutan

A second wild-born Sumatran orangutan in eight months has arrived at Jantho Nature Reserve, born to a rehabilitated mother released in 2014, signaling conservation success. The female baby, confirmed on July 29, is the offspring of Wenda, who has lived wild since 2014 and is monitored by a post-release team. Officials called the birth proof of successful rehabilitation. The reserve population stands at 197, including 11 births. A prior birth occurred in May, while national Sumatran orangutan numbers have declined 19.5% since 2011.
