India's TB cases and deaths fell sharply from 2015 to 2024, says health minister

India's tuberculosis incidence rate declined by 21% between 2015 and 2024, with mortality dropping 25%, according to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, who also reported over 2.29 crore diabetes cases under a national programme. TB case notifications rose from 25.52 lakh in 2023 to 26.37 lakh in 2025, while treatment coverage increased from 53% to 92%. The incidence fell from 237 to 187 per lakh population, outperforming the global decline of 12%. The government expanded the 100-day TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to all districts, focusing on high-risk screening and early diagnosis. Under the NP-NCD programme, 1.53 lakh oral cancer, 24,969 breast cancer, and 37,948 cervical cancer cases were reported between 2023-24 and 2025-26.
