India's first full organ transplant institute to open in Kozhikode, cutting costs by two-thirds
India's first comprehensive organ transplant institute will be built in Kozhikode, Kerala, with the Chief Minister stating treatment costs will drop to one-third. The facility aims to make transplants affordable. The institute will be constructed on 20 acres in Chevayur over 30 months, with Delhi-based Jackson Limited receiving the work order. Operations will temporarily begin at the medical college, with surgeries expected to cost only 25-35 percent of private sector rates. Announced in 2022, the project will be built in two phases managed by HLL Infratech Services. Phase one includes 350 beds, ICUs, dialysis centers, and 10 operation theaters, targeting annual procedures like 1,100 cornea and 520 kidney transplants.
