India has completed its first Hyperloop test track, an 11-km facility at IIT Madras in Chennai. Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the completion, highlighting a maiden run at 100 km/h, with plans to increase speeds to 600 km/h in future tests. The project is a collaboration between IIT Madras and steel magnate Lakshmi Niwas Mittal. The facility features a 400-meter vacuum tube built with 400 tonnes of steel supplied by ArcelorMittal and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India. The test track aims to advance Hyperloop technologies for high-speed transportation. It is expected to be operational by the end of the first quarter of 2024.
