India to ease certification norms for high-tech industries
India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced Tuesday that the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and his ministry will develop a framework to exempt high-tech industries from certain certification norms, supporting the Make in India programme. Speaking to semiconductor and AI companies in Tokyo, Goyal said exemptions could be granted at company or industry level, either in bulk or product-based, to ensure timely supply. He also addressed SEZ notification clarifications and reiterated the government's commitment to making India a manufacturing base for electronics and semiconductors. Goyal offered to create social infrastructure for Japanese companies and their expat employees. He also met portfolio investors including MUFG, Mizuho, and Nomura, who sought easier profit repatriation and regulatory predictability while maintaining a positive long-term outlook on India.
