India rapidly expands renewable energy capacity
India is experiencing significant growth in renewable energy sources like solar and wind, with the largest addition of clean power in its history. This shift away from coal is driven by government policies and private investment. India added 30 gigawatts of clean power in the last fiscal year, enough to power nearly 18 million homes. Solar power is now the most economical option, and renewables now make up 45% of installed capacity, though coal still dominates electricity generation. Despite progress, challenges remain, including optimizing renewable energy generation and building infrastructure. India aims for 50% of its energy from clean sources by the end of the decade, with experts predicting continued growth.
