India Meteorological Department marks 150 years of weather forecasting excellence

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) will celebrate its 150th anniversary on January 15, 2025. Established in 1875, it is one of the earliest government agencies for systematic weather observation and forecasting in India. Recent improvements have enhanced accuracy by 40-50%, with modern technology and infrastructure supporting its operations. Today, the IMD employs over 4,000 scientists and operates multiple regional and state meteorological centers.
