India Builds Stronger Cyber Defences for BRICS Summit After G20 Attack Surge

India has significantly strengthened its cyber-defence architecture ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, following lessons from a massive cyber assault during the 2023 G20 Summit. The official G20 website faced 1.6 million attack attempts in a single minute, nearly 26,000 per second. The attacks were contained through coordination between the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, CERT-In, and the National Informatics Centre. India's approach now combines multiple security layers, traffic filtering, continuous monitoring, and automated detection, with teams formed at national and local levels to handle millions of attacks per second. Cyber cooperation is a key BRICS priority, with a cyber exercise held in New Delhi this year testing coordination between response organisations. Indian organisations face over 3,800 cyberattacks weekly, with AI-powered attacks driving a surge and data breach costs hitting a record Rs 26 crore.
