Immigration raid injures workers fleeing factory in Bercham and Kanthan

An immigration raid at a door factory caused panic among foreign workers, with several injured while attempting to scale walls to escape. The operation led to 175 detentions out of 305 workers inspected. The raid, which began at 7pm Thursday in Bercham and Kanthan, targeted timber factories, glove factories, and food courts. Detained workers, mostly from Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Vietnam, faced offences including being undocumented, lacking valid permits, and holding permits for different employers. Immigration director-general Zakaria Shaaban detailed the operation at a press conference. Some workers hid between wooden boards or among industrial waste bins, while others failed to scale barbed-wire-topped walls. Several cases also involved fake temporary employment visit passes.
