IHC marks 75 years of support for people with intellectual disabilities in New Zealand
New Zealand's IHC celebrated its 75th anniversary last week, marking decades of support for people with intellectual disabilities. The event took place at Rosebank Lodge in Balclutha, where community members gathered to honor the organization's history. Vivienne Fiddes, a long-time advocate, highlighted the IHC's local impact, noting that it has operated in Balclutha for over 46 years. Currently, about 10 clients in the area receive support in residential homes. Despite its achievements, IHC faces challenges with declining volunteer numbers, dropping from 45 area associations to about 23. Fiddes emphasized the ongoing need for support and funding for various activities and services for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
