IGP Disu removes six Port Harcourt MOPOL commanders over alleged N70,000 monthly extortion

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has removed six Mobile Police commanders attached to TotalEnergies in Port Harcourt over alleged monthly ₦70,000 extortion from officers. The removals followed an investigative panel’s indictment after SaharaReporters exposed the scheme. Affected officers initially denied it, then submitted documentary evidence, prompting authorities to replace all six commanders and recommend trial for money collectors. Officers had alleged commanders demanded the payments after an allowance increase, included themselves on field payroll, and left personnel without medical or overtime benefits despite guarding critical assets.
