ICE raids in Los Angeles raise community concerns
Reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in Los Angeles have raised concerns among local officials and immigrant-rights activists. This follows heightened fears of aggressive immigration enforcement under President Donald Trump. Los Angeles City Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez expressed alarm over the raids, stating they threaten families and communities. Activists allege that the Los Angeles Police Department was involved in these operations, which contradicts the city's policy against participating in federal immigration enforcement. LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell denied the department's involvement in immigration actions, clarifying that they were only assisting with traffic control during a separate investigation. Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California has also alerted communities about potential ICE raids and emphasized immigrant rights.
