ICE plans to deport migrant charged with subway murder
Tom Homan, the Border Czar, announced plans to deport Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, a Guatemalan national charged with murdering Debrina Kawam in a subway arson. This action will proceed despite New York City's sanctuary policies. Zapeta-Calil, 33, was arrested in December 2024 after the incident at Coney Island. He is currently held at Rikers Island and has a prior deportation from the U.S. in June 2018. Homan stated that federal agents will continue their efforts to deport Zapeta-Calil, despite challenges from local policies. An ICE detainer has been issued for him, requesting his transfer for deportation once his legal matters are resolved.
