Hyderabad reports highest breast cancer incidence in India, study finds
A recent report from the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences shows that Hyderabad has the highest breast cancer incidence rate in India, with 48 cases per lakh women. This surpasses other major cities like Chennai and Bengaluru. Between 2014 and 2016, Hyderabad recorded 11,596 new cancer cases, with breast cancer being the most common among women. Mouth cancer was the most prevalent among men. The report highlights a significant rise in cancer cases in the city. The study also found a high burden of tobacco-related cancers, particularly among men. The mortality rate for cancer in Hyderabad was lower than in other regions, with 758 deaths in men and 582 in women during the study period.
