Hurricane Kristy downgraded to Category 2 as warnings issued for life-threatening surf conditions
Hurricane Kristy has been downgraded to a Category 2 storm with winds of 100 mph, after reaching Category 5 status earlier this week. It is currently moving northwest across the Pacific, affecting the Baja California coast. Authorities warn of "life-threatening" surf and rip currents due to swells generated by Kristy. The National Hurricane Center advises caution for those in the affected areas, as conditions are expected to persist through the weekend. Kristy formed from the remnants of Tropical Storm Nadine and is the 11th named storm in the eastern Pacific this season. It is not expected to impact the U.S. mainland.
