A humpback whale was spotted near the coast of IJmuiden. The whale was seen swimming close to the South Pier, near the IJmuiden harbor, and appeared to be heading south. This sighting was reported by the nature organization SOS Dolfijn. Humpback whales are increasingly being observed off the Dutch coast, with another sighting near Egmond aan Zee last month. SOS Dolfijn advises observing the whale from the shore and reporting sightings. Humpback whales are identifiable by a hump before their dorsal fin and exhale water when surfacing.
