Huawei forecasts AI agents to dominate 90% of token traffic by 2035
Huawei forecasts autonomous agents will generate over 90% of global AI token traffic by 2035, requiring massive computing power increases and new systems to ensure independent software remains secure and controllable. The Chinese tech giant said Wednesday that annual AI token consumption will skyrocket as agents continuously perceive, reason, decide, and call external tools. Huawei's "Intelligent World 2035" report lists security and privacy protection for autonomous agents among 10 essential technologies, without calling for slower development. The forecast contrasts with U.S. calls to slow frontier AI progress after rogue agent incidents. Huawei expects 900 billion agents globally by 2035, roughly 100 times the projected human population, and has launched security platforms and AI firewall proposals.
