How to manage driving license points in Italy

Losing driving license points is easy, but regaining them is more difficult. The system, in place since 2003, starts with 20 points, reduced by traffic violations. Infractions can deduct 1 to 10 points, with multiple violations potentially losing up to 15. New drivers lose double points in their first three years. Points can be recovered through courses or two years of good driving. Losing all points requires re-taking license exams. Three serious infractions in a year also mandate re-examination. Point balances can be checked online or via phone.
