Hong Kong transport savings deemed "insignificant" by Legco
A report from Hong Kong's Legislative Council Secretariat states that savings from the revamped HK$2 transport fare scheme are "insignificant." The scheme is considered more generous than similar programs in other major cities. The report also notes that freezing civil servant pay is expected to save about HK$8.7 billion in the upcoming financial year. However, cutting 10,000 civil service positions will yield limited savings due to many unfilled roles. Changes to the transport fare scheme include capping trips for the elderly at 240 per month and charging 20 percent of the full fare for journeys over HK$10. These adjustments aim to address a deficit of HK$87.2 billion.
