Hong Kong housing group urges larger public housing and three-year wait

A Hong Kong housing group urged the government to set targets in its first five-year plan to increase public housing living space and cut rental waiting times to three years. Federation of Public Housing Estates said the average wait for general applicants was 5.6 years at end-March, or 4.7 with temporary housing. It called for a long-term three-year goal rather than a KPI in the plan. About 175,300 public homes are expected from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The group's chairman said the three-year target is achievable and urged clearer living-space targets.
