Hochul announces public safety proposals during Buffalo visit

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced two public safety proposals during her visit to Buffalo. She plans to seek funding for technology grants for police departments and to merge the state's crime analysis centers with its cybersecurity center. The proposed Crime Analysis Joint Special Operations Command aims to enhance information sharing among law enforcement. This would create a physical center, potentially the first of its kind in the U.S. Buffalo has seen a decrease in gun violence and homicides, with 153 shootings in 2024, the lowest since 2006. Hochul highlighted the positive impact of previous funding on local police efforts.
