Hobby-dogging emerges as a new trend focusing on handler training

A new trend called Hobby-Dogging involves attending dog training classes without an actual dog. Participants practice commands and exercises with imaginary pets. Inspired by Hobby-Horsing, this activity allows people to learn dog training techniques, such as walking and agility, using an empty leash and harness. It focuses on training the human handler. The trend has gained attention online, with mixed reactions ranging from amusement to suggestions of using shelter dogs. Trainer Barbara Gerlinger sees it as beneficial mental preparation for pet ownership.
