Hobart hotel donates $500,000 in furniture to support women's transitional housing
A Hobart hotel has donated around $500,000 worth of furniture to Amelie House, a new transitional housing facility for women at risk of homelessness. This donation includes over 2,000 items, significantly reducing setup costs for the facility. Amelie House, operated by St Vincent de Paul Society and Hobart City Mission, will accommodate up to 43 women. The site was previously vacant after Bethlehem House relocated in November 2023. The donation aims to provide a comfortable living environment for residents. The Tasmanian government has contributed $1.2 million to support Amelie House's operational costs. The facility is part of ongoing efforts to address the housing crisis in Tasmania, where demand for housing continues to exceed supply.
