Hiker reflects on solitude and challenges of the Continental Divide Trail journey
Carey Kish recently completed a 2,600-mile hike on the Continental Divide Trail (CDT), part of a 3,028-mile route from Mexico to Canada. He noted the physical and mental challenges of the journey, which included solitude and breathtaking scenery. Kish faced difficulties returning home, including a three-day travel ordeal and a bout with COVID-19. He reflected on the experience, appreciating the simplicity of life on the trail and the support from his wife and fellow hikers. Looking ahead, Kish plans to hike the Camino de Santiago in Spain next spring. He aims to enjoy a more leisurely pace on this 550-mile pilgrimage, contrasting with the intensity of the CDT.
