Hera spacecraft successfully receives software upgrade 140 million kilometers from Earth

ESA's Hera spacecraft successfully received a critical software upgrade 140 million kilometers from Earth. Engineers performed two reboots of the spacecraft, which is en route to study the asteroid Dimorphos after a NASA impact. The process involved an eight-minute communication delay for each command. Hera will investigate the effects of NASA's DART mission on Dimorphos, the first celestial body whose orbit was intentionally altered by humans. The mission launched in October 2024.
