Heavy snow hits Seoul and eastern South Korea prompting weather alert

Heavy snow has blanketed the wider Seoul area and eastern Gangwon region of South Korea, leading to a raised weather alert. Authorities expect up to 8 centimeters of snow in Seoul and 10 centimeters in surrounding areas through Monday. The Ministry of Interior and Safety has activated its Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters at Level 1. The crisis alert has been raised to "caution" to address potential disruptions. Acting Interior Minister Ko Ki-dong has directed agencies to mobilize resources to minimize damage and reduce public inconvenience, particularly regarding traffic congestion.
