Heavy rain warnings for Tokai region as Typhoon No. 24 brings landslide risk

Heavy rain warnings remain in effect for three prefectures in the Tokai region on September 7 due to Typhoon No. 24, prompting the meteorological agency to urge caution against landslides and flooding. Rainfall since the start of the storm has reached 413.0 millimeters in Owase and 335.0 millimeters in Kumano Niikata, both in Mie Prefecture. The agency warns that saturated ground increases disaster risk even with light rain. JR Central plans to operate the Tokaido Shinkansen as scheduled from the first train, but delays or sudden suspensions are possible. Similar heavy rain threats, including linear precipitation zones, are also affecting the Kanto region.
