Heavy rain risk in Aichi, Gifu, Mie as linear rain bands may form Tuesday

The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned that linear precipitation bands could form in the Tokai region on Tuesday afternoon, bringing extremely heavy rain and raising the risk of landslides and flooding. Residents in Aichi, Gifu, and Mie prefectures are urged to stay alert. Rain has fallen intermittently in the region since September 3, with accumulated rainfall reaching 66 millimeters in Nagoya and 458 millimeters in Owase, Mie Prefecture. The agency forecasts up to 150 millimeters of rain in Aichi and Gifu, and 200 millimeters in Mie, within 24 hours through Wednesday morning. The heavy rain is expected to continue through Thursday due to an active weather front. Officials are specifically warning about the heightened danger of landslides, inundation of low-lying areas, and rising river levels if linear precipitation bands develop.
