Harrods offers compensation for Mohamed al Fayed's victims
Harrods is offering financial settlements to victims of sexual abuse by its former owner, Mohamed al Fayed. The proposed payouts could reach up to £300,000 if the victims agree to undergo psychiatric testing. According to MPL Legal, the law firm representing Harrods, claimants could receive between £110,000 and £200,000 in compensation. The amount varies based on the agreement to take a psychiatric assessment, which they call the "medical pathway." Victims alleging abuse could be compensated for general damages, aggravated damages, and wrongful testing payments. General damages can be as high as £110,000 for the sexual assault itself, with additional costs for treatment and loss of earnings. The payments also include amounts for wrongful medical examinations that some victims endured. Al Fayed, who passed away in 2023, faced numerous allegations of rape and assault. Police have opened investigations into new claims against him and others related to 40 alleged victims. A survivors’ group claims that the abuse extended beyond al Fayed, indicating a larger network involved in these heinous acts. Among the notable victims is Bianca Gascoigne, who has publicly shared her story of being groomed and assaulted by al Fayed as a teenager. Lawyers have drawn comparisons between al Fayed and other notorious predators like Jimmy Savile and Harvey Weinstein.
