Guiuan town in Eastern Samar adopts solar power
Guiuan, a town in Eastern Samar, has transitioned to solar power by installing a 60-kilowatt-peak rooftop solar system on its municipal building. This project, in partnership with the Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities, aims to reduce energy costs and promote renewable energy. The solar installation, completed in February 2025, is expected to save the local government around P200,000 monthly on electricity. The project is the largest solar installation by ICSC in Eastern Visayas and will power the municipal hall and its facilities. Mayor Analiza Gonzales-Kwan hopes this initiative will inspire other local government offices and residents to adopt solar energy. The project also includes plans for solar street lights in nearby islands, emphasizing the town's commitment to sustainability and resilience.
