GTA 6's rumored $2 billion budget is unconfirmed
Rumors about the budget for Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) claim it could be around $2 billion. However, there is a lot of doubt about this figure. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has confirmed any budget details, and the game is still in development, so the actual costs won't be known until it is finished. Looking at previous Rockstar games, none have come close to a $1 billion budget. For example, Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) had an estimated total cost of about $333 million, including development and marketing. Even when adjusted for inflation, it is unclear how GTA 6 could cost nearly seven times that amount. Additionally, Red Dead Redemption 2, another major Rockstar title, had a budget estimated at around $540 million, which is still well below $2 billion. Even some of the world's most expensive games, like Genshin Impact and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, have not reached the rumored budget for GTA 6. A significant part of a game's budget often goes towards marketing. For GTA V, the marketing costs were about $265 million. If Rockstar decides to invest heavily in marketing for GTA 6, this could inflate the total budget. However, a substantial marketing expense does not necessarily mean that the development costs are equally high. In summary, there is currently no evidence to support the claim that GTA 6 has a $2 billion development budget. The total cost, if it includes marketing and other expenses, might reach close to $1 billion, but the development cost alone is likely much lower. Fans are encouraged to focus on official updates and announcements rather than unverified rumors. The game is expected to launch in Fall 2025.
