GRP Pune reports 228 unidentified bodies found on railway tracks in 2024

The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Pune reported that 228 bodies found on railway tracks and in trains last year remain unidentified. In total, 583 individuals were found dead in 2024, a decrease from 617 in 2023. Of the deceased in 2024, 343 died from train accidents, compared to 377 in 2023. The GRP faces challenges in identifying victims, especially when bodies are dismembered or lack identification. GRP officials are focusing on tracing identities using mobile phones and documents found with the deceased. They also analyze CCTV footage to determine where individuals boarded trains.
