Greenhouse gas emissions will soon breach the warming limit
Scientists predict that the world is on track to emit enough greenhouse gases by early 2028 to make the 1.5 degrees Celsius warming limit nearly unavoidable. This will lead to more extreme weather events. The study, published in Earth System Science Data, indicates that the rate of warming is accelerating. The 1.5-degree limit, set in the 2015 Paris Agreement, is a critical threshold for avoiding the worst impacts of climate change. The report highlights that the world is producing 46 billion tons of carbon dioxide annually, and the 1.5-degree limit is a political one. Exceeding it will lead to more frequent and severe climate extremes.
