Greeks increasingly get news from social media, especially younger people

Social media are now a primary news source in Greece, surpassing television for younger demographics, according to a 2025 Eurobarometer survey. Short posts and videos are favored content formats. Social media platforms are used by 56% of Greeks for news, compared to 54% for television. Search engines and video platforms are also significant sources, with younger users aged 15-24 showing the highest engagement with social media. The survey also found that 16% of Greeks encounter fake news "very often," and 37% follow influencers, aligning with the EU average. Trust levels are highest for friends, family, and scientists.
