Greek Swimmers Kynigakis and Makri Place in Top 20 at European Championships
Greek swimmers Alkis Kynigakis and Georgia Makri finished 11th and 20th respectively in the 10km marathon swimming finals at the European Championships in Paris, both placing within the top 20 in their events. Kynigakis, competing in his fifth European Championship, finished 11th in the men's race with a time of 1:56:05.4. He was 7th at 5,600m but dropped to 16th at 6,900m before recovering to finish strongly among 34 starters, three of whom did not complete the race. Makri finished 20th in the women's event with a time of 2:12:58.1, her second European Championship appearance after placing 13th last year. She stayed within the top 20 throughout the race, which began with 32 athletes, one disqualified and three non-finishers.
