Greek police arrest 36 in agricultural subsidy fraud ring

Greek police dismantled a criminal organization that defrauded the EU and national economy by submitting false applications for agricultural subsidies. The group allegedly used fake land and livestock declarations to illegally obtain over 5 million euros in subsidies. Thirty-six members, including alleged leaders, were arrested in a coordinated operation across Greece. The investigation, which began in 2018, uncovered a complex money-laundering scheme involving bank accounts, cryptocurrency, and luxury goods. Authorities estimate the total damage could exceed 10 million euros.
