Greek Pay Rise for 150,000 Police, Firefighters, and Military
Approximately 150,000 Greek uniformed personnel are set to receive pay increases and retroactive payments ranging from 960 to 6,000 euros, depending on rank, under a new salary system being implemented. The changes, which began in autumn 2025 and continue through 2027, go beyond a flat increase. They restructure basic pay, service-year scales, and special allowances, and link public sector wages to minimum wage growth. Retroactive payments for those in command positions are calculated from October 1, 2025, with monthly amounts ranging from 100 euros for department heads to 500 euros for chiefs. The new system introduces four salary categories for police, firefighters, and coast guard, with basic pay varying by category and years of service. For the armed forces, the reform ties pay progression more closely to service years, origin category, and rank, with new coefficients applied to basic salary. Daily meal allowances for the military were also increased to 6.40 euros for enlisted personnel and 7.3 euros for special forces.
