New electrolytes stabilize lithium metal batteries, enabling higher energy density and longer cycle life. Researchers added a targeted ligand anti-solvent to ether-based electrolytes. This innovation prevents electrolyte decomposition during charging, improving stability and performance in high-voltage cells. This advancement led to a 450 Wh kg−1 pouch cell lasting over 750 cycles and a 605 Wh kg−1 cell with 96% capacity retention after 150 cycles.
