Government urges social media platforms to swiftly remove harmful online gaming content

The Rajya Sabha has mandated social media platforms to quickly remove harmful online gaming content, particularly regarding children's addiction. This requirement is part of the Information Technology Rules, 2021, aimed at addressing risks associated with online gaming. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology emphasized that intermediaries must not host or share content that violates laws, including information harmful to children. This includes content related to gambling and money laundering. Additionally, the Ministry of Education has issued guidelines for parents and teachers to help manage children's online gaming habits. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also set up a center to coordinate responses to cyber crimes.
