Government spending rises 5.1% in January as tax revenue grows

Government spending increased by 5.1% in January compared to the previous year. This rise in spending occurred as tax revenues saw a more modest increase of 0.6%. The Minister for Public Expenditure stated spending was below forecast growth rates. The Exchequer Returns also showed increases in income tax and VAT, indicating a strong jobs market and consumer spending, contributing to a January surplus.
