Government says no need for central law to protect healthcare professionals as states have existing measures
The Indian government stated that a separate central law for protecting healthcare professionals is unnecessary, as many states already have laws addressing violence against them. Serious crimes are covered under existing legislation, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The Ministry of Health has advised hospitals to file police reports within six hours of any violence against medical staff. States have also been urged to enhance security measures for healthcare workers. In response to recent violence, including the murder of a trainee doctor, the Supreme Court has established a National Task Force to improve safety and working conditions for medical professionals.
