Government retires four underperforming civil servants and plans to cut over 10,000 positions by 2026

Four civil servants were retired due to poor performance by March. The government expects to cut over 10,000 civil service positions by the end of its term. A simplified mechanism for retiring underperforming civil servants was implemented in September 2023. Of 24 notified staff, four were retired, two resigned, and four improved performance. The government aims to reduce civil service headcount by over 10,000 by April 2026, as part of a resource optimization plan. Most cuts are at junior and mid-level positions.
