Google urges Gmail users to upgrade to passkeys
Google is urging its 3 billion Gmail users to immediately upgrade their accounts to passkeys to protect against increasing cyberattacks. This is a critical security measure. The upgrade is prompted by a rise in phishing attacks mimicking Google's support, aiming to steal credentials. Users are advised to change their passwords and enable two-factor authentication, preferably through an authenticator app, after setting up a passkey. This call to action coincides with World Password Day and growing adoption of passkeys. Microsoft is also pushing for password elimination, highlighting the increasing vulnerability of password-based accounts to cyberattacks.
