Google Play introduces verification badges for privacy-focused VPN apps
Google Play is introducing verification badges for VPN apps that meet specific security standards. This new feature aims to highlight apps that prioritize user privacy and safety. To earn a badge, VPNs must pass a Mobile Application Security Assessment, have at least 10,000 installs, and submit user data collection information. They must also be on Google Play for at least 90 days and agree to independent security reviews. This update comes as VPN usage rises, particularly for accessing TikTok. Verified VPNs like Nord, hide.me, and Aloha have already received badges, enhancing Google’s ongoing efforts for transparency and security in the Play Store.
