Godhra train carnage convict arrested for theft in Nashik

A convict from the 2002 Godhra train carnage case, Salim alias Salman Zarda, was arrested in Nashik for theft. He had previously jumped parole twice and was leading a gang stealing from parked trucks. Zarda, along with four others, was caught after stealing 22 tyres worth Rs 2.49 lakh from a truck. The police used CCTV footage to identify and apprehend the group. Zarda was sentenced to life imprisonment after his death sentence was commuted. He had been on the run since September 2023 after being released on a seven-day parole.
