Global NGOs demand release of activist Pranab Doley held over Kaziranga hotel protest

International NGOs and tribal communities are demanding the release of indigenous activist Pranab Doley, detained in Assam's Golaghat jail after protesting a hotel project near Kaziranga National Park. Doley and 12 others were arrested after a June 28 protest against a Hyatt-affiliated hotel on tea tribe-owned land. Authorities accused them of trespass, assaulting police, and arson attempts; he was granted bail July 29 but re-arrested under the National Security Act. Doley, a Mising tribe member and TISS graduate, argues the project would displace 45 Adivasi families and disturb wildlife corridors. UN experts and Survival International have also demanded his release.
